FKAT
The Foster Carers Association of Tasmania (FCAT) was formed in 1986 to represent and to be a voice for Foster Carers. In 2015 the name was changed to include kinship carers and is now commonly known as the Foster and Kinship Carers Association (FKAT). It is now recognised as the professional voice of foster and kinship carers in Tasmania.
The association aims to provide supportive services to all Foster and Kinship Carers, to keep members informed of new ideas and changes policy and laws relating to children in care, to give members an opportunity to present to ideas. to state and national policy makers, to safeguard and promote the best interests of those in our care, to keep members up to date on foster care allowances and benefits, to work with the Department of Child & Family Services to ensure the best outcomes for those in our care.

Foster and kinship Carer Advocacy and Support Team
The Foster and Kinship Carer’s Association of Tasmania established FAST in 2005 with the aim of providing greater levels of support and advocacy for foster and kinship Carers.
This move was in response to both state and national surveys that indicated that carers would prefer to be supported by foster care peak bodies and other Foster Carers.
FAST is a team of trained foster carers that have volunteered to provide support, advice and advocate on the behalf of other Foster or Kinship Carer either in a group or individual basis.
